REPORTING TO: Environmental Services Manager
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the direction of the Environmental Manager, the Housekeeping Aide performs cleaning duties within the home which, contributes to the provision of a clean and safe living environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma.
2. Ability to read and write English as well as to understand verbal and written instructions in English.
3. Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined which includes ability to maintain regular attendance in addition to work in a very dynamic environment.
4. Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care and service for residents.
5. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete assignments in a timely manner.
6. Ability to communicate effectively with other staff, residents, families, and the public.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
7. Ensures cleanliness and sanitation of resident rooms and other assigned areas by following job routine and Housekeeping/Laundry Services Manual including following routines, contact times.
8. Maintains the cleanliness of resident rooms, bathrooms, and non-resident areas by carrying out regular cleaning duties as assigned. Duties include washing, dusting, wiping, removing waste, sanitizing resident units, vacuuming, dry mopping, wet mopping, washing, stripping, waxing, polishing floors and use of floor machines, cleaning windows, removing and hanging drapery and privacy curtains, shampooing carpets, etc.
9. Carries out special cleaning assignments as scheduled.
10. Removes and disposes of waste as necessary.
11. Ensures proper use, maintenance and storage of equipment and supplies. 12. Maintains inventory of supplies appropriately and advises supervisor when supplies require replenishment.
13. Performs all duties in accordance with the written policies and procedures of Extendicare, the facility and the Housekeeping/Laundry Department.
14. Participates in evaluating care and/or services provided by the Housekeeping Department to residents under the facility Quality Assurance/Improvement Program.
15. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and is aware of and adheres to Safe Work Procedures, specific to job responsibilities. Maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
16. Follows manufacturers’ instructions in the operation and use of all equipment and chemicals.
17. Reports unsafe and hazardous working conditions and any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
18. Knowledgeable of facility procedures for fire and environmental safety.
19. Performs duties in accordance with prescribed sanitation and infection control procedures.
20. Respects residents’ rights to dignity and privacy and performs duties in a courteous and respectful manner.
21. Adheres to but not limited to “Standards of Employee Conduct,” “Commitment to Residents,” “ Bill of Rights”, and “Extendicare Quality Care Standards”,, Extendicare Mission, Vision and Values.
22. Works closely and cooperates with other staff and residents. Maintains good working relationships with other departments.
23. Participates in inter-disciplinary care conferences, committees, meetings, as required.
24. Responsible for the development and upgrading of his/her knowledge and skills. Attends inservice sessions and conferences as required.
25. Performs other related duties as assigned.
