REGIONAL DIRECTOR, OPERATIONS - EXTENDICARE

This role will provide operational leadership for Personal Care Homes (PCHs) in Manitoba.

The Regional Director will be a key member of the Resident Care Leadership Team, helping to lead the operations in the Resident Care Division and contribute to implementing Extendicare’s vision of the future of seniors’ care in Canada.

Working in partnership with peers, the Regional Director is accountable for driving operational excellence in the areas of clinical care and support services; management of operating and capital budgets; fostering a culture of service excellence; and leading and developing teams to deliver optimal services to the communities we serve.

Key Outcomes

  • Serve as a strong advocate for resident safety and the ongoing improvement of quality care.
  • Consistently meet or exceed all quality and clinical indicators for residents through the effective implementation and evaluation of required clinical programs.
  • Consistently meet or exceed all financial KPIs through the effective management of operating and capital budgets
  • Foster a positive culture and employee experience, driving an increase in overall employee engagement compared to the previous year.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory compliance regarding resident plan of care, as well as organizational standards, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic plan and manage the operations of PCHs in the designated region
  • Manage operating and capital budgets for the assigned region; review operational performance and ensure quality targets are met
  • Leverage data and analytics resources to develop new insights into the business and drive improvement initiatives
  • Support home leadership teams in reviewing and addressing operational and quality issues with residents, families, and other key stakeholders
  • Provide consistent and meaningful leadership to PCH home leaders with clear performance expectations and targets; ensure accountability, offer regular coaching, and support career development and progression
  • Identify skills and/or knowledge gaps within the team, including succession planning for key roles
  • Implement engagement and retention strategies that empower team members to deliver their best work
  • Model critical thinking, problem-solving behaviours, advocacy, and a “can do” mentality to foster a high-performance team environment
  • In collaboration with Quality and Risk, participate in resident safety incident reviews and Quality of Care reviews, including identification of contributing factors and implementation of improvement initiatives
  • Ensure homes comply with Extendicare and government policies and regulatory standards
  • Oversee the proactive identification of enterprise risks and support the implementation of mitigation plans in alignment with the organization’s enterprise risk framework
  • Participate in the organization's resident and family satisfaction program to drive continuous improvement and ensure a consistent experience across homes in the region
  • Focus, motivate and inspire the workforce to deliver a consistently positive resident and family experience

Required Education, Credentials and Experience

  • Proven operational leadership and expertise in the LTC sector, including all provincial, legislative and regulatory requirements guiding LTC
  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Health, Management or other related field preferred
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in progressive positions, ideally in healthcare operations and/or seniors’ care
  • Formal training/education and/or expertise in quality improvement theory, methodologies, and science
  • Experience in overseeing improvement initiatives that require partnership with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Ability to analyze performance data to inform decision making and improve outcomes
  • Ability to present and report out to wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to understand, apply and integrate legislative, regulatory, and quality assurance frameworks related to healthcare and seniors’ care
  • Experience in leading and building high-functioning teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in consensus-building, negotiation, and conflict resolution
  • Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with change management and project management
  • Passion for person-centred care, culture change and service excellence
  • Travel is required, must have ability to travel across assigned province; occasional national travel may be required.
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
