Extendicare offers rewarding and meaningful work where you can enrich your life and the lives of others.  This position is for our Extendicare Guildwood home, located in Scarborough, Ontario.What you’ll be doing:  Assists the DOC in the implementation and evaluation of the nursing department quality improvement initiatives, risk management systems, data collection and analysis, report writing, procedural updates.Takes the lead in the coordination and implementation of best practice and risk management initiatives related to resident care (i.e. falls, restraint use, wound management, Infection Control)Effectively manages utilization of nursing suppliesResponsible for the High Intensity Needs programMaintains a system of care assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation at the resident and unit program level that maximizes staff resources and contributes to interdisciplinary team approach to resident careEffectively supports the RAI-MDS program.Participates in the homes Continuous Quality Improvement team and assist as needed in the completion of the quality protocols and program evaluations. Creates action plans and ensures follow-up actions are completed. Facilitates quality projects thru PDSA cycles, fishbone exercises etc.Maintains an active presence in the units and mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident careInitiates investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety; develops and monitors modified work programs for nursing personnelWorks collaboratively with the Director of Care on special projects, reviews, and other duties as be assignedIdentify areas of improvement for staff development and work with the DOC to ensure overall effectiveness of the nursing departmentAdvocating for ethical and effective practice in all areas in the organizationAssisting the DOC with input to Performance AppraisalsFocusing on Resident Centered Care Needs as required by MOH LTC Home Legislation and Extendicare PoliciesActively participates in the palliative approach to care program, goals of care and advanced care planningAssumes responsibility for the nursing department in the absence of the DOCSuccessful candidate will be required to be flexible in working hours.What you bring:  Registered Nurse registered with College of Nurses of Ontario; BScN an assetMinimum of three years’ experience as an RN, preferably in long term care; previous management experience an assetCurrent knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education and quality improvementKnowledge of clinical indicators in LTC and RAI MDS is requiredKnowledge of public policy, accreditation standards and processes that affect long-term careWhat you’ll getContinuous mentorship, support for life-long learning and growth opportunitiesOpportunities for advancement and career growth within the organizationA rewarding and meaningful work experience where you can enrich your life and the lives of others through your work.Employee Family Assistance Program.Robust benefits package.Extendicare is a leading provider of care and services for seniors throughout Canada.
